FAQ

What are Glasseye Lures made out of?

Our unique lures are made out of glass, not an acrylic or resin, 100% glass. This gives them some great advantages in casting distance, lower density for a slower sink and transparency.

Why Glass?

Due to the density of Glass being approximately 11x less dense than lead, it provides a much slower sink whilst still maintaining it's weight and mass outside of the water. This means you can get an incredibly long distance cast (similar to that of a metal or lead based lure) whilst reaping the benefits of a much slower action - keeping your lure in the strike zone longer! Being transparent always allows Glasseye Lures to better mimic the bodily appearance of our native baitfish, prawns and squid prey species.

Do they break easily?

The compressive strength of glass is extremely high: 1000 N/mm2 = 1000 MPa. This means that to shatter a 1cm cube of glass, it requires a load of some 10 tonnes. In non-scientific terms, no they won't break easily at all and after a year of product testing and casting into rock walls we have yet to break or shatter even one!

If you're still concerned, as a final safety measure, all Glasseye Lures are protected with a soft resin shell on their outside, to further assist with longevity and impact resistance!

How do you fish Oba-Ke and Bubba-Ke?

We typically fish Oba-Ke & Bubba-Ke in a very similar fashion to a soft plastic lure. We cast out and allow them to sink, then retrieved with a series of hops, double hops, twitches and lifts. It can also be fished the same way as a slow jig, dropped vertically underneath the boat and to the desired depth and then slowly lifted up and down as you drift through bait schools or over structures such as reefs, wrecks & pinnacles.

How often are Glasseye Lures available?

Our lures and bundles are typically available every 8 weeks or so, with exclusive colours made available through us directly. We do also stock select retailers. You can keep updated by subscribing to our VIP mailing list and also get early access on new products and re-stocks. The announcement bar on our home page will also give you updates.
